KeyRelay privacy policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026 (KeyRelay 1.3)
KeyRelay is a button remapper made by FightTech VN. This policy explains what the app does with information. The short version: KeyRelay collects no personal data and sends nothing anywhere.
What KeyRelay collects
Nothing. KeyRelay has no account, no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no server. We, the developer, receive no data from the app.
What is stored on your phone
KeyRelay keeps these on your device only, in the app's private storage:
- the mappings you create (the keys, how they are pressed, the actions, conditions and names);
- your profiles (including the hours of time-of-day profiles) and the "Off in these apps" list, including the package names of the apps you chose for them or for "open an app" actions;
- for screen-tap mappings, the spot you picked, stored as a position on the screen (no picture of the screen);
- a random code for each home-screen shortcut you create, so only that shortcut can run its mapping;
- your floating buttons (label, spot on the screen, size, opacity and the apps they show in);
- for "Send to an app" actions, the app you picked and the action and extras you typed;
- your settings (language, theme, timings);
- the date and version of the accessibility notice you agreed to;
- the Google Play purchase receipt for KeyRelay Pro, cached so Pro keeps working offline.
You can delete all of it at any time in Settings › Privacy and data › Delete everything, or by uninstalling the app.
Key presses
KeyRelay handles the keys you press in memory, the moment you press them, to decide whether one of your mappings should run. Key presses are never logged, stored or sent. Keys that no mapping uses pass straight through.
The accessibility service
KeyRelay uses Android's Accessibility service, which you turn on yourself after a full-screen explanation. It uses it to:
- see the keys you press, so the keys you mapped can run the actions you chose;
- know which app is in front, so app profiles, app conditions and the "Off in these apps" list can apply;
- find the text field you are typing in, only when you use a text action (insert text, cut, copy, paste, select all, move the cursor, Enter). KeyRelay never acts on password fields;
- make a screen tap, swipe or pinch, only when you press a key you mapped to one, at the spot you picked: one gesture per press, never repeated or run on its own. While you pick the spot, KeyRelay shows its own see-through layer that only sees your finger on it;
- see whether the on-screen keyboard is showing (only that such a window exists, never its content), for the "keyboard showing" condition;
- draw your floating buttons over other apps, only when you have created them and turned them on. Each button only feels a touch on itself and never sees what is under it; the buttons hide while KeyRelay is paused or the screen is locked;
- keep the screen on with an invisible window, only while a "Keep screen on" mapping you pressed is on. It ends on your next press or when the screen turns off; your screen timeout setting is never changed.
The service does not read your messages, screen content or passwords, takes no screenshots and does nothing on its own: it only runs the mappings you set up, when you press their keys.
"Why didn't it fire?" When you open this check, KeyRelay keeps your last 20 key presses and what it decided for each, in memory only, while the screen is open. They are cleared when you close it and are never saved, logged or sent.
Sensors. Only while one of your mappings uses the "held sideways", "fold" or "in a pocket" condition (and, for the pocket, only while the screen is on), KeyRelay reads the motion, hinge or proximity sensor to know the current position. Nothing is recorded. You can turn it off at any time in Settings › Accessibility.
The KeyRelay keyboard
KeyRelay includes an optional keyboard (an Android input method) with no keys of its own. It is off until you turn it on in Android's keyboard settings and switch to it; Android then shows its usual warning that a keyboard could collect what you type. KeyRelay's keyboard does not. It only types what your mappings say into the field you are in: a key (pressed, held while you hold the trigger, or kept down until your next press) or your own text. It never reads the text in the field, keeps nothing but the keys it is holding down at that moment (in memory), logs nothing, sends nothing and never types into password fields. Switch back to your usual keyboard at any time with "Switch keyboard" on its bar.
Assistant button
If you choose KeyRelay as your phone's digital assistant app, the assistant button or gesture runs your "Assistant button" mapping instead of opening an assistant. KeyRelay does not listen to the microphone, read the screen or receive anything else from this setting. Choose another assistant in Settings to undo it.
Sending to other apps
A "Send to an app" mapping (Pro) sends an intent with the action and text extras you typed to the one app you picked, only when you press its key. KeyRelay never sends to itself and receives nothing back.
Installed apps
KeyRelay lists the apps you can open on your phone only while you pick one for an action, a profile or a condition. The list is not stored, except the apps you choose, and is never sent anywhere. KeyRelay does not request access to all installed apps (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES).
Purchases
KeyRelay Pro is sold through Google Play. Google Play processes the payment under Google's own privacy policy; KeyRelay never sees your payment details. The app receives the purchase receipt from the Play Store app on your phone, checks it on the device, and does not send it anywhere.
Backups
- Your backup files: "Back up to a file" saves your mappings as a .keyrelay file wherever you choose. What you do with that file is up to you.
- Share codes: "Share mappings as a code or QR" turns the mappings you choose into a text code and a QR picture, made on your phone. Parts that belong to your phone (a device you chose with "this device only", device conditions) are left out. They leave your phone only if you share them. Adding mappings from a code reads the text you paste or a picture you pick; KeyRelay does not use the camera.
- Android backup: if you use Android's own backup, it may copy your mappings and settings to your Google account so they come back on a new phone. The purchase cache is excluded; Pro is restored from Google Play.
